Super Brain Yoga
Super Brain Yoga
A two-minute daily practice to sharpen the mind — for every age, and especially for children
Every day seems to bring a new style of yoga into fashion — water yoga, hot yoga, Pilates, and the list keeps growing. Joining this list is a practice that is refreshingly simple yet remarkably effective: Super Brain Yoga. It is suitable for people of every age, but it holds particular value for children, whose minds are still forming.
As the name suggests, Super Brain Yoga is meant to keep the mind active, alert, and sharp. It is one of the simplest practices you can adopt for improving mental health — no equipment, no mat, no special clothing beyond something loose and comfortable.
What the research says
Dr. Joie of the University of California has studied and validated Super Brain Yoga in her research. Her findings point to a clear mechanism: daily practice activates acupuncture points in the ears and stimulates the mind, which in turn increases the brain’s working capacity.
- Squatting while holding the earlobes activates acupressure points linked to memory and concentration.
- Regular practice has been associated with improved focus and calmer emotional regulation in children.
- The controlled breathing involved increases oxygen flow to the brain, supporting alertness.
- Consistency — even just a few minutes daily — matters more than duration for lasting benefit.
Let’s practice
Stand comfortably, hold your left earlobe with your right hand and your right earlobe with your left hand (arms crossed), then slowly squat down and rise back up while breathing steadily. A few rounds each morning is enough to begin feeling the difference.
Precautions to keep in mind
Super Brain Yoga is gentle, but a few precautions matter:
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing so the squatting movement is easy.
- Women should avoid this practice during pregnancy or menstruation.
- Anyone who has had recent surgery should not attempt this practice.
- If you have significant back pain, knee pain, or shoulder pain, practice only under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
With this wish — may everyone stay healthy and happy. Hari Om.
